Newport-Mesa Names New Principal for California Elementary School

Dr. Linda KimNewport-Mesa Unified School District (NMUSD) has selected Dr. Linda Kim as the principal of California Elementary School. Dr. Kim has eight years of experience as an elementary school principal, plus nine years as a teacher. 

“I absolutely love the role of the principal because I have the opportunity to foster and nurture an environment that mirrors a healthy family, a microcosm of the world we hope to have for our future generations,” she said. “I make it my priority to get to know every student, parent, volunteer and staff member so that they feel a strong sense of belonging, leadership and empowerment to make a positive impact,” said Dr. Kim.

At Encinita Elementary School in Rosemead, Dr. Kim raised the California PBIS Coalition ranking from bronze to gold level. She received accolades for the development and implementation of  the Rosemead School District’s Mandarin Dual Language Immersion program in the midst of a global pandemic. 

Dr. Kim is known for her advocacy on behalf of students and staff. She sets a collaborative tone and listens to the needs of the community she serves.

“Because education is constantly changing and shifting, I am dedicated to creating a school culture that can adapt to these changes by creating opportunities for us to learn and grow together,” she said.

Self-described as a lifelong learner, Dr. Kim speaks Spanish and Cantonese in addition to English. She received her Doctorate in K-12 Educational Leadership from the University of Southern California and received training in personnel administration and school business from the Association of California School Administrators

Dr. Kim will join NMUSD on July 1, 2022.
